Changes to Planning Portal Fee

Planning Portal admin fee to increase on 1st April 2025


Following our Planning Fee Increase article on the 12th February, the Planning Portal have today confirmed that their administration charge for submitting a planning application will also be increasing to £84.40 (£70.33+VAT). The higher fee equates to a 20.5% increase in cost for submitting a planning application. 


The Planning Portal cite significant increases in the cost of processing planning applications, including security, payment handling and associated fees, platform maintenance, and support services as the reason for the increase.

Why is the service charge increasing?

The Planning Portal states that the increase in fee enables them to: 


Maintain and enhance essential services that support the entire planning and construction sector. 

Develop innovative tools and features, utilising new emerging AI technologies to streamline the application process for all users. 

Deliver dedicated customer support to assist applicants and planning professionals. 

Ensure secure and efficient payment processing for smoother transactions. 

Does the admin charge apply to all applications?

The Planning Portal fee applies to applications that have a planning fee in excess of £100. Applications under £100 will not incur a service charge.

How much will a householder application cost?

For householder planning applications, which are typically sought for extensions to existing properties, the fee increase will amount to a total planning fee of £612.40.

 

The fee for ‘Works within/along the boundary of an existing dwellinghouse’, which will comprise small-scale operations within the curtilage of a dwellinghouse, such as the construction of gates, fences, and walls, will total £372.40
